Harvests by the Ugandan fish dealers on the Uganda-DR Congo border in Kasese district remain low after some leaderships of the Civil Society Organizations back in the former Belgium colony reportedly mobilized fish traders against crossing to the Ugandan soil for trade.
The resistance comes hardly two weeks after Lt. Col. Mercy Tikahirwe, the Commandant of the Fisheries Unit in the Uganda People’s Defense Forces reportedly consulted the appointing authority and ordered the market back to the country at the excitement of the fish dealers in Uganda.
Mr. Selevest Mapoze, the local council three chairperson for Mpondwe-Lhubiriha town council in Kasese district confirmed the challenges which he however said was temporary because the move to call back the fish market to the Ugandan side was understandable by their counterparts in the DR Congo. Mr. Mapoze speaking…….
Mr. Mapoze later said Uganda and DR Congo Ambassadors were in consultations against a disagreement that is likely to hit between the leaders of some Civil Society Organizations blocking fish traders in Congo, and the local community that is perceiving the blockage as a selfish move frustrating trade.
The area Town Clerk, Mr. Moses Mugisa who said the relocation to the DRC of the fish market was a deliberate decision in curbing the spread of COVID-19, said the market was slowly but steadily picking despite a few challenges. Mr. Moses speaking………
Some taxi drivers and Boda –boda riders interviewed, including Mr. William Kaputhu and Mr. Landaus Masereka described the relocation of the fish market back to Uganda as a dream come true to improve their living conditions. Drivers and Boda-Boda……
They however called for neighborhood watch for purposes of maintaining peace that translates into investment. END.
