Fire has gutted the boy’s dormitory at Mbarara Secondary School.
The fire that started at 10:30 a.m yesterday gutted Nyerere Dormitory which houses S1, S2, and S3 students.
The fire destroyed mattresses, clothes, books, shoes, and basins worth millions of Shillings.
Monica Ashaba, the Deputy Headteacher in charge of Academics says that the students were attending campaigns to elect student leaders by the time fire broke out.
Ashaba says that the students combined efforts to stop the fire from spreading further, was in vain. It was however stopped by the intervention of the Police Fire Brigade.
She says that it is not clear what sparked off the fire, but they will wait for the police to investigate and come out with a detailed report.

One of the students who preferred anonymity said they were attending campaigns when they saw smoke coming out and when they rushed to find out what was happening, they found the building burning. The Rwizi Region Police Spokesperson Samson Kasasira says that they have started inquiries into the cause of the fire.END.
