    By Barbra Muhindo,

Dr. Kayiri Joyfred Kathembo, the health in charge for Rukoki health four in Kasese Municipality has warned that human, both young and old were clients of lockjaw bacteria that the local community members should work against by being hygienically clean.

He said tetanus is an infection caused by bacteria called Clostridium tetani that when after enteing the body, produces a toxin that causes painful muscle contractions that often causes a person’s neck and jaw muscles to lock, making it hard for one to open the mouth or swallow.

Speaking to Kasese guide radio last evening, Dr. Kayiri urged pregnant mothers and those involved in accidents to seek for vaccinations against tetanus he said was deadly. Dr. Kayiri speaking1……..

Dr. Kayiri who said prevention is cheaper than cure, said spores of tetanus bacteria are everywhere in the environment, including soil, dust, and manure, adding however that unlike other vaccine-preventable diseases, lockjaw bacteria is not spread from person to person. END
