Mr. Ronald Bwambale Kabuku, the Forum for Democratic Change chairperson in Kasese District has called for full involvement of Village Chairpersons in the recruitment exercise of Local Defense Units personnel or else suspected criminals may target the exercise.
He said by involving Village Chairpersons and not necessarily the leaderships of the ruling NRM political party, security would be able to recruit able people of high integrity during an exercise that started this week in the districts of Kamwenge, Kitagwenda, Bunyangabu, Kyenjojo and Kasese under a strategic move aimed at neutralizing the degraded remnants of Allied Democratic Forces in the Rwenzori sub region.
Mr. Kabuku who said the recruitment of the LDUs was in the right direction for the safety of lives and property, calls for strategic plans by the Ministry of Defense and Veteran Affairs against picking for recruitment agents of criminal gangs who will use the positions to worsen security of the Wanainchi. Mr. Kabuku who did not tell this radio of any military strategy under which the Local Defense Unit recruitment is done, expressed disappointment that whereas Kasese district was reportedly more vulnerable to ADF attacks, it has been placed in the second phase for recruitment.
