Farmers in Kasese District are being encouraged to shift their mindset and make agriculture as a business, focusing on commercialization and value addition to improve their livelihoods and boost economic growth.
The remarks were made yesterday by Mr. Julius Rukara, the Kasese District Agricultural Officer, while officiating at the distribution of farm equipment to twenty farmer groups under the Farmer Family Learning Groups initiative.
The event, organized by the Great Lakes Organic Farmers Association, was held at the Organic Rwenzori Tourists Gardens in Kyababinga Cell, Kasese Municipality.
Mr. Rukara emphasized the importance of adopting modern farming techniques, strategic planning, and collaboration to enhance both productivity and profitability. Meanwhile, Mr. Longino Masereka Kyakora, the Executive Director of Great Lakes Organic Farmers Association, highlighted that the pilot project funded by Organic Denmark donated essential farm tools including spades, tap lines, drums, and pumps, among others. Mr. Longino speaking.
He urged the beneficiaries to take good care of the equipment and use it effectively to ensure food security and improve household incomes.
