The local farmers in the greater Kisinga in Kasese district, including, Mr. Morris Kunahimbire, have called for plans to regulate coffee buyers, some of whom interfere with the postharvest handling practices and coffee quality as well.
Presenting his concern during a community meeting on coffee quality convened by the Kasese district local government at Mabale Resort in Kisinga Town Council yesterday, Mr. Kunahimbire who blamed the rampant coffee theft to those he called irresponsible coffee middle men and buyers, said regulating dealers would ease the implementation plans to fix the current challenges with an aim to maintain coffee quality and her demand as well. Mr. Julius Mukeri, the local council three chairman for Kisinga subcounty, conquered with Mr. Kunahimbire saying that whereas demand and ready market were prayers of the farmers, some coffee buyers are less bothered about the guidelines put in place to maintain the quality of the crop. Mr. Julius Rukara, the Kasese District Principal Agricultural Officer who emphasized commercial faming among community members, called for guided pre and postharvest plans by framers he said easily translate into better coffee that will maintain quality and demand.
