Enhancing Productivity in food crops is not enough to lift smaller holder farmers out of Poverty, but farmers should add value to their primary Production and also diversify their range of income earning activities, both on and off the farm.
Mr. Asanairi Bukanywa, the Kasese Municipal Agricultural Officer, said this is only possibleif they handle Post-harvest practices very well.
Speaking to Kasese Guide Radio yesterday, Mr. Bukanywa noted that improved post-harvest handling, storage and processing of Agricultural Produce can lead to increase in income and improved livelihoods of smaller holder farmers and Agro-Processors.
He warned farmers against selling their food crops on pressure during this Christmas season. Mr. Asanairi Bukanywa speaking….
Bukanywa, also urged farmers in Kasese district to plant indigenous trees, which he said are weather resistant and profitable under Carbon Credit among others. END
