Increasing Agricultural products’ Prices by government is one way that might motivate Farmers in Kasese district to engage themselves in farming activities, a mini research conducted by Kasese Guide Radio has revealed.
The farmers, mostly coffee and vanilla growers, argue that they are not happy with the manner in which the prices of agricultural goods have allegedly kept changing negatively from one season to another.
According to them the tendency has created reluctance among the farmers who allege they don’t earn good money from Agriculture as expected.
Mr. Rashid Kabatoro from Buhaghura Parish, asserts that as government prioritizes coffee production, the process of other cash crops should be increased to create a breathing space for the farmers, noting that 10000 shillings per kilogram of coffee is not motivating.

Mr. Johnson Musangyi, a farmer who owns a vanilla plantation says they became motivated when a kilogram of the once lucrative cash crop was being bought at shillings 300,000 and later became disappointed when the prices dropped to shillings 8,000. Mr. Johnson speaking…
However, despite concerns by the farmers, Dr. Chrispas Kiyonga, the Chancellor for Makerere University has urged the public to engage in Agriculture for food security and improved household incomes. END.
