The former Minister of Defense Dr. Chrispas Kiyonga has expressed concern over the increasing school dropout rates in Kasese district and underscored a need to fight this vice.
He said the trend at which learners are dropping out of school in the district is alarming, calling for collaborated efforts among stakeholders to step up ways of sensitizing parents on the importance of keeping children in school.

Addressing students and parents of Ihandiro sub-county at Ihandiro Vocational secondary school yesterday, Kiyonga wondered why the enrollment of primary one pupils doesn’t reflect after seven years when they register for Primary leaving examination.
Lt. Maate Magwara, the deputy RDC in charge of Bukonzo County observed that parents are interested in keeping their children home so as to engage in activities, like farming and vending among others instead of keeping them in school.
During monitoring at the beginning of this term, Magwara noted low turn up of learners that could have demoralized teachers who were ready for classes.
