Dr. Joyfred Kayiri Kathembo, a medic attached to Rukoki health Centre for in Kasese Municipality, calls for the promotion of a healthy diet with lots of fruits, vegetables and lean proteins among other food stuffs to provide the energy needed for women under labor.
He also emphasized timely antenatal shifts and exercises to keep the muscles supple to let the expectant mums bear the pain of labor by developing strong thigh and pelvic muscles to assist them during labor and birthing, too.
In an interview with Kasese Guide Radio yesterday, Dr. Kayiri listed poor positioning of the fetus, the babies’ large size, weak contractions, anxiety, stress and fear that result into prolonged labor, as some of the contributors of caesarian section cases during labor.
Whereas he did not commit himself to administrative records and referred our reporter to the Kasese District Health officer for statistics about cases of caesarian section in the district, Dr. Kayiri who was happy about the increasing number of health facilities with theatres and medical doctors, said having about 15% of caesarian cases wasn’t alarming as perceived by the public. In some community circles, some members blame the busy schedule, commercialization and concentration of private assignments by medics are some of the reasons escalating cases of caesarian section among expectant mothers. END
