The Ministry of Health has asked health workers prescribing medicines to be clear while explaining or writing doses for their patients.
During an event held today to mark World Patient Day, Hanifa Kawooya, the Minister of Health in charge of General Duties said writing unreadable prescriptions is an outdated technique in a world where people are more aware and concerned about their health and what medicines prescribed.
Hon.Kawooya on drugs speaking….
Kawooya was speaking shortly after the National Drug Authority-NDA shared statistics that they have in the last five years received up to ten thousand reports of client complaints about different drugs they were either prescribed for or accessed over the counter.
Dr. Helen Byomire Ndagije, the Director of Product at National drug Authority said this statistic is not representative enough saying that the country’s reporting mechanism is still below the World Health Organization rate of reporting unsafe drugs which should be at least 200 reports per one million inhabitants.
