Diocese of Kasese is today celebrating 34th Anniversary after the official announcement from Vatican, by Pope John Paul II.
The Diocese of Kasese which was erected on 06th March 1989 from Fort Portal Diocese was officially announced on a day like today in 1989, the same date for the appointment of Bishop Emeritus, Rt. Rev Egidio Nkaijanabwo as the first Bishop of the Diocese of Kasese.
The Diocese of Kasese started with 20 priests including 13 diocesan priests and 7 religious priests some from DRC, 10 male religious and 12 religious Sisters with total estimated population of lay faithful of 114,822.
Following the retirement of Bishop Egidio Nkaijanabwo on 15th April 2014, the Vatican through the Apostolic Nuncio office announced, Mgr. Francis Aquirinus Kibira by then who was a rector at St. Paul Major Seminary- Kinyamaseka as the second Bishop of the Diocese of Kasese.
Speaking to Kasese Guide Radio on phone one of the first heads of communication in the diocese of Kasese, Thatha Asasio Kamalha Buhaka commended the Bishop of Fort Portal Diocese by then, Late Rt. Rev. Serapio Bwemi Magambo who worked tirelessly for the recognition of the diocese of Kasese and Bishop Egidio for agreeing to take on a task of working as the first Bishop.
