Dr. Amon Bwambale, the Kasese District Health Officer, has called for no fears by HIV/AIDS clients over the US suspension of funding for HIV/AIDS services across Africa, include Uganda.
In Uganda, most citizens are concerned about the abrupt withdrawal of U.S. funding for HIV/AIDS programs in the country, the move that would threaten and undermine the significant progress made in combating the disease.
In an interview with this radio last evening, Dr. Amon suppressed the fears, adding that whereas they were waiting for another step of action by the government of Uganda about the move by the US, almost all clinics, distribution centers and hospital have enough ARVs and their related medical drugs that can cover all their clients for more than a year. Dr. Amon however registered some challenges in outreaches, medication and sensitization of their HIV/AIDS clients after the district longtime supportive partners like Baylor-Uganda among others, temporarily closed business over the funding withdraw orders by the Trump government. Ms Flavia Kyomukama, a representative from the National Forum of People Living with HIV in Uganda, had earlier yesterday warned that the freeze in funding was not merely a financial blow, but a direct threat to lives. END
