    Desert locusts have entered into Uganda.

    A large swarm of desert locusts have entered into Uganda and reportedly settled in the districts of Karamoja sub region in north eastern Uganda.

    According to the Amudat District Senior Agricultural Officer, Joseph Marimoi who said that they had informed the agricultural Ministry about the new invasion the locusts entered through Karita Border area and spread throughout Karita Sub County and around the mountains but spread to the Town Council on Saturday.     According to the UPDF spokesperson for third division, Maj. Peter Mugisa, a team of UPDF soldiers yesterday battled with the insects but that the spraying was not effective because they continuously flew high in the sky, thus limiting the hand spraying exercise.

    The Nakapiripirit District Entomology officer, Dr. Simon Peter Amoga Says that they are tracking the movement of the insects that first invaded Uganda on January 19 before the UPDF managed to kill them through hand spraying with the assistance from the Desert Locust Control Organization of East Africa.
