By Enos Masereka,
The Government has urged Civil Society Organizations to respect laws and guidelines set by the country.
Speaking at a project reporting meeting at Mestil Hotel in Kampala yesterday, the Chairperson of the Equal Opportunities Commission, Safia Nalule Juuko said that while the environment within which the CSOs might not be the best, it is important that those saying that the space is shrinking to uphold their duty to operate legally should not conflict with the law.
She said that rights come with responsibilities and that as much as she implores government agencies to uphold human rights and respect the law, civil society organizations promoting the different rights and freedoms should correspondingly respect the law. Ms. Nalule speaking..
The former Kasese Woman Member of Parliament and Leader of Opposition, Winfred Kiiza said that the government asking CSOs to respect the law, they want them to submit to control against their agenda to protect the rights and freedoms of the people. Ms. Winfred speaking..
Kiiza said that the laws meant to govern civil society are more oppressive and restrictive to the advantage of the National Resistance Movement- NRM.END.
