Over two hundred coffee growers and Uganda Coffee Development Authority registered coffee nursery bed script operators have launched a one-week peaceful demonstration in the Rwenzori Region over delayed payments of billions of money.
Addressing the media at Musungu Resort in Kasese Municipality, the Regional General Secretary for the operators, Mr. Charles Baluku said the peaceful demonstration was part of the strategies put in place to demand for over 40 billion shillings from government since 2017, the delayed payments that have forced many of their colleagues to sell their property over accumulating loans. Earlier, Mr. Nason Musungu, the Coffee Nursery bed operators’ chairperson in the region said bank loans had accumulated and left most of them in ill health over stresses as a result of unending demands by banks and failure to provide for their families.
Mr. Morris Kule, another affected seedling supplier said he had decided to hide from his family whose demands he cannot ably service thus, wondering why government can fail to pay for their supplies but luxuries he did not however identify. Mr. Moris speaking…….
Whereas no official comment has been obtained from the leadership of Uganda Coffee Development Authority, Mr. Peter Thembo, another affected member asked for urgent intervention by President Museveni for payments if they were to have peace. END
