A five-month-old baby boy has died after being attacked by a chimpanzee in Kagadi District, in a shocking incident that has left the community in grief and fear.
According to the mother, Janet Kobusinge, a local resident of Kahyooro B Cell, Karuswiga Ward, Muhorro Town Council, the tragedy unfolded as she was weeding her bean garden near their home while carrying the baby on her back.
She narrates that a chimpanzee suddenly emerged from the nearby Katyoboona Forest, grabbed the baby, and bolted back into the forest reserve.
Moments later, the baby was found dead in the forest with severe injuries to the head, mouth, and chest, with the local residents and leaders blaming Uganda Wildlife Authority for ignoring their repeated pleas to control the growing chimpanzee menace.
