The country will today commemorate Archbishop Janani Luwum`s Day.

The state minister for ethics and integrity, Rose Lilly Akello, said the main commemoration service will be held at the Kololo Independence Grounds.

This will be led by Arch-Bishop Rev. Dr Stephen Kazimba Mugalu.

The guest of honour will be President Yoweri Museveni.

A twin commemoration service will be held on the same day at the home and burial grounds for the late clergyman at Wii Gweng, Kitgum District.

Akello said while addressing journalists at the Media Centre last evening in Kampala ahead of the celebrations of Archbishop Janani Luwum Day.

The theme for the commemoration is: ‘Hope beyond affliction: Lamentation 3:21-26’.

On the night of February 16th, 1977, Luwum was murdered at Nakasero by President Idi Amin Dada. At the time he was the second Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi and Boga-Zaire. END.
