More than 100 carpenters are counting losses after fire gutted five carpentry workshops located on Buddu Street that have also been a carpentry training center for dozens of youth in Masaka city.
According
to witnesses, the fire broke out in the wee hours yesterday and spread out to
the entire workshops.
Alex Katashisha, the proprietor of the burnt workshop says that among the
properties that burnt to ash include heaps of timber, pieces of furniture in
their showroom, woodworking machines and three mobile money kiosks that have
been operating near the workshop among other property.
Mr. Katashisha says that despite calling in police fire brigade on time, they failed to put out the fire because the trucks lacked water but also their water systems on the trucks had challenges that forced the forces to manually use them. Mr. Katashisha speaking……..
Mr. Muhammad Nsubuga, the greater Masaka regional police spokesperson described the situation as regrettable, adding that investigations into the incident had started. END
