A Section of Drivers at Bwera taxi stage in Kasese Municipality have threatened to hold a peaceful demonstration on Friday morning, demanding unconditional release of about thirteen drivers who are reportedly in police custody at Kasese central Police station over yet to be known reasons.
The interim Executive Committee for the Drivers’ Cooperative Sacco were arrested on Wednesday evening after they had gathered at their office to deliberate on what they called mismanagement of their Sacco funds by the leadership.
Mr. Abdullah Kiyonga, told the press at Rwenzori East Regional Police Headquarters this afternoon, Drivers at Bwera stage in Kasese Municipality have agreed to halt passenger vehicles coming and going to Bwera route tomorrow morning, in anticipation for unconditional release of their fellows and three Drivers Cooperative vehicles reportedly impounded by police. Kasese district commercial officer Mr. Simon Kasereka while at police told Our Reporter that thirteen drivers were arrested on allegations of electing parallel leadership against the cooperative law, inciting violence, malicious damage and character assassination among others.
