Sub-County Chiefs in Bukonzo County West in Kasese District have asked Local Council three Chairpersons under their Umbrella G8 to pass by-laws of growing Cassava and Vegetables.
Mr. Mustafa Kikusa, for Nyakyiyumbu, said if the by-law is passed, every household at sub-county level will be required to grow root crops such as cassava, Potatoes, millet, beans and vegetables.
During the 7th G8 summit held at Isango Sub-County in Kasese district yesterday, Kikusa noted if the by-law is approved it would guarantee food security and sustainable income at household level.

He said the by-law is looking at crops that can last months and push a farmer to another season.
Mr.Rabex Mbusa Mubalenga, the Sub-County Chief for Karambi, said they have established a free vegetable demonstration farm, where the Community can access free seedlings and grow in their homes.

He regretted that Ugandans are dying of hunger yet the country has the capacity to supply food to most countries in Africa.
