The government has stationed a boat ambulance at Lake Bunyonyi in Kabale and Rubanda districts.
The ambulance which was procured by the Ministry of Health with support from GAVI, the vaccine alliance, will be stationed at Bwama Island Health Center III in Kitumba sub-county to ease the evacuation of patients and expectant mothers from the areas around the lake.
Area leaders say that the ambulance will also be used to refer patients from Bwama Island Health Center III to Harutinda shore so that they can easily get motor vehicles to better facilities in Kabale and Rubanda districts.
Speaking during the commissioning ceremony at Lake Bunyonyi shore of Harutinda on Tuesday, Kabale District Health Officer Dr Gilbert Mateeka said that the boat will enhance outreaches on maternal and child health services since health workers have been struggling with transport. Dr. Mateeka speaking…….
The Kabale District Chairman, Mr. Nelson Nshangabasheija says that the boat ambulance is a relief because health workers at the Bwama Island health facility had for many years suffered while transporting patients who need surgical services. END
