The Bishop of Luwero Anglican Diocese and Kasana Luwero Catholic Diocese did not take part in the Joint Ecumenical Way of the Cross.
The Public Way of the Cross journey is annually commemorated on Good Friday, a day observed to symbolize Jesus Christ’s crucifixion and victory over death.
It is observed during the Holy Week preceding Easter Sunday when Jesus was resurrected from the dead.
As a tradition, the clergy under the Uganda Joint Christian Council in Greater Luwero under their umbrella body, Luwero, Nakaseke, and Nakasongola, Joint Christian Council converged at Our Lady of Fatima Queen of Peace Kasana Cathedral where they set off from.
However according to the organizers, Bishop Lawrence Mukasa of Luwero Catholic Diocese did not take part because Rt. Rev. Wilson Kisekka who was enthroned Bishop Luwero Diocese, a week ago, did not have adequate time to prepare for the event.
They argued that since the tradition has been that the Clergy jointly take part in the event, Rt. Rev. Mukasa could not participate alone.
With Bishop Mukasa absent, the Catholics were first led in a brief prayer by the Cathedral Administrator, Rev. Fr. Denis Ssebuggwaawo at 9.am. After the prayer, the procession started and was led by Vicar General Msgr Francis Xavier Mpanga and Hilary Muheezangango the National Director Caritas Uganda flagged off the Christians. END.
