By Francis Muhindo,
Parents and Guardians in Kasese District have been encouraged to offer financial support to privately hired teachers who are currently teaching in government grant-aided primary schools following industrial action of pay rolled teachers as a means of motivating them.
Last month, primary school teachers, under their umbrella body the Uganda National Teachers’ Union (UNATU) refused to return to their schools, citing low enhancement.
Speaking recently during his pastoral visit to Kisinga Vocational Secondary School in Kisinga Town Council, the Bishop of South Rwenzori Diocese, Rt. Rev. Nason Baluku, commended the privately hired teachers for their dedication, particularly in supporting learners in candidate classes.
He urged parents to prioritize the payment of school dues to ensure schools have adequate funds to pay these teachers and keep them motivated.

The Prelate also appealed to parents to join others in urging the striking teachers to return to work, warning that the time lost due to the strike could negatively impact the performance of Primary Seven candidates. Bishop Baluku confirmed 72 Christians into the Anglican faith and also dedicated 263 Senior Four and 108 Senior Six candidates to the Lord in preparation for the UNEB Examination. END
