Residents who fled from their homes following an attack by suspected Allied Democratic Forces rebel in Bweramule Sub County in Ntoroko District are reluctant to return to their homes.
On Tuesday, about 40 ADF rebels attacked the villages of Kyobe and Kayanja II displacing more than 500 people who have sought refuge at Karugutu Primary School and Rwebisengo Town Council.
The Commander of the Mountain Division, Maj. Gen Dick Olumu asked the Internally Displaced People to the return to their homes since the rebels had been defeated and situation was back to normal.
Mr. Godfrey Businge like many others say they are still afraid of returning home because they are not certain if the area is safe though the UPDF says security had been heightened.
Ms Florence Katutsi, who fled with three of her children and Faith Kabugho like many other mothers however say they have not yet received any food relief since Tuesday even when they had been registered by government, Save the Children and Red Cross. Ntoroko IDPs speaking…….
Mr. Raphael Matte, the Local council three chairperson for Karugutu Town Council, says they registered 861 people who had camped at the school but the town council is financially constrained though they have written to the office of the Prime Minister requesting for food relief.
Mr. William Kasoro, the Ntoroko District Chairperson says that the district has provided transport to ferry the civilians who are willing to return home and contacted the United Nations High Commission for Refugees for relief aid. Mr. Kasoro speaking……
According to records from the army, 17 rebels were killed, 13 captured and more than 15 guns recovered during the attack. END
