The Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, His Grace Dr. Stephen Samuel Kazimba Mugalu has called for a review of the decision by government to withdraw her health workers from Church founded health facilities.
Last year, the government of Uganda announced a move of withdrawing public pay rolled health workers in private based health institutions to address staffing gaps in government health facilities.
In his summon during service at St. Paul’s Cathedral church in South Rwenzori Diocese yesterday, Dr. Kazimba said whereas the decision could have been forced by government’s financial constraints, consideration should be done to health facilities mainly in the hard to reach areas whose community members can hardly be attended to by the health personnel from other areas. Mr. Eriphaz Muhindi, a medic turned politician who doubles as the Kasese district local council five chairperson said whereas the district had given a deaf ear to the government directive, his office was pinpointed over failure to implement the ministry’s decision
Mr. Muhindi who said his office was doing it in a phased manner not to paralyze the operations of private health facilities, also announced that government had asked the private founding bodies to apply for specialized medical personnel that government will continue facilitating. Nanson Baluku, the bishop of South Rwenzori Diocese reported the dare need for infrastructure development mainly in government aided schools in the diocese, giving an example of the populated but academically upright Kamaiba primary school in Kasese Municipality whose learners struggle for the limited stances of the few pit latrines at the institution.
