Some local leaders in areas neighboring Nyamwamba river have called for preventing measures against the anticipated floods to save lives and property especially as rains intensify in the Rwenzori region.
Mr. Jafali Kigutiha, the Chairperson LC one for Basecamp lower cell in Kasese Municipality like many others was scared that the government and her development partners were active in responding to the effects of disasters but invest too little in preventive measures.
Mr. Kigutiha who estimates close to 500 people that have died as a result of Nyamwamba flooding wants to see fleets of government vehicles here to prevent loss of live and property than seeing them dishing much monies in burying victims of disasters.
Mr. Kigutiha speaking………..
The Kasese district Senior Planner, Mr. Joseph Isingoma said that whereas no much has been invested in sorting Nyamwamba river issues as required of government and her development partners, preventive measures at local levels, including monitoring of the water levels, were being done. Mr. Isingoma speaking1……….
Change of color, floating vegetation and increasing volumes of water should be some of the river suspicious behavior and signs of possible flooding that the community should monitor and report about.
