Government has announced that all armed forces will not be part of the newly launched Parish Development Model that is intended at increasing household incomes and improving the quality of the life of Ugandans.
These include the UPDF, Police and Prisons.
The revelation was made by the minister of Information and ICT, Dr Chris Baryomunsi during the orientation of MPs on the progress of the Parish Development Model.
However some legislators protested the decision.
Baryomunsi said that armed forces have several avenues through which they can engage with government on matters related to income generation.
Parish Development Model is aimed at ensuring transition of the subsistence households to the money economy.
The programme was allocated over Shs 1 trillion next financial year.
Women are supposed to take 30% of the funds, the youth 30%, persons with disability 10%, older persons 10% while the others including men will take 20%.END.
