Bukasakya, a community in Mbale City has been hit by a cholera outbreak, with at least one person confirmed dead and two others hospitalized.
According to Mbale City Health Officer, Moses Mugonyi, two confirmed cases of Cholera are currently receiving treatment at Bukasakya Health Center III, while the suspected death of a 19-year-old girl underscores the severity of the situation.
The flying toilet is the unhygienic phenomenon of defecating in kaveera and the excrement is then disposed of in the bushes.
Residents have been placed on high alert, with authorities urging them to report any symptoms of Cholera promptly, as well as educating the community on preventive measures such as boiling or treating drinking water and maintaining proper hygiene. END
