The High Court in Kampala last week sentenced Mathew Kanyamunyu, the Executive Director, Quantum Express Logistics to five years and one month in prison.

Meanwhile, the same court discharged his co-accused and girlfriend Cynthia Munwangari after the Director of Public Prosecutions discontinued murder proceedings against her.

Mr. Kanyamunyu and Munwangari were accused of killing Kenneth Akena Watmon, the former employee of ACODEV, a non-government organisation based in Kasese district.

This comes after Kanyamunyu entered a plea bargain with the DPP for his sentence to be reduced from murder to manslaughter.

The judge read out the brief facts of the case, were Kanyamunyu pleaded guilty to the charge of manslaughter.

While sentencing him, the judge considered the time Mathew Kanyamunyu had spent on remand which is eleven months, the time of plea bargain, he was a first time offender, he has a family to look after and he has a health issue, where he suffers from hypertension. END
