Maureen Mbambu, a 24- year old girl agriculture student from Metropolitan University-Mbarara campus has called for mindset change for agriculture that many youth think is for the poor elderly community members.
In an interview by our news reporter at the Kasese Municipal nursery bed yesterday, Ms Maureen Mbambu, a resident of Nyamwamba East cell in Kasese municipality boasted of her mushroom garden she says had not only boosted their diet at home but also household incomes.
Ms Mbambu who expects more than four million shillings in her 3 acre piece of land in Mubuku irrigation scheme, said agriculture should be given a new face as a potential income generating venture and not only for subsistence as traditionally perceived. Ms. Mbambu speaking……
Earlier, the Kasese Municipal agricultural officer, Mr. Asanairi Bukanywa had called farmers to form farmers’ security committees that work in shifts against crop theft. Mr. Bukanywa speaking……….
He also asked farmers to stick to the recommended farming methods to increase quality and quantity production. END
