    By Peter Masereka,

About twenty five cows on average die each day over drought in Nyakatonzi Sub County in Kasese district, Mr. Stephen Ampire, the sub county local council three chairperson has confirmed.

He said the situation had also been fueled by low milk production and prices of cattle by buyers who have taken advantage of the frustrated cattle keepers failing to get urgent solutions for the survival of their herds.

Speaking to Kasese Guide Radio in an interview in Kasese town today, Mr. Mpire who called for government intervention before the situation goes out of hand, said the sub county was currently faced by a number of challenges ranging from draught, pests and diseases among animals, lack of clean and safe waters for his electorates, as well as poverty and hungry among others. Mr. Ampire speaking..……

Mr. Mpire who said they were only banking on God for rains, partly blamed the situation to their area Member of Parliament he alleged was hard to be seen over such an emergence he could present to the House for a solution, including repairing the few existing boreholes in the areas. Mr. Ampire speaking…….

He threatened to mobilize the community to be very selective during political campaigns so as to pick up political leaders who could well understand the interest of the local population. END
