At least 90 suspected criminals were arrested and one gun recovered in operations by Kampala Metropolitan Police over the weekend.
The suspects were picked up from Katale, Kevina-Nsabya zones, and St Benedict-Kabalagala in Makindye Division.
A senior Police officer at Katwe Station, which is holding several suspects, said the detainees include 4 notorious gang members who were found with an empty pistol they were using to threaten their victims in Kevina zone, one of the criminal hubs.
He said the operation resulted from several complaints by motorists, pedestrians, and residents about the increasing cases of phone snatching, motor vehicle breaking, and night burglaries.
Police spokesperson Fred Enanga, says the Makindye operation led to the arrest of eleven suspects but the city swoop led to the arrest of about 80 suspects on Saturday and Sunday combined.
He says that of the 80, 16 were caught red-handed snatching phones at city square just next to the Central Police Station-CPS Kampala during the rush hours. Fred Enanga on arrests…..
Enanga says just like how police dismantled the Northern bypass criminal gangs, Police and its sister agencies are willing to clean up the whole Kampala Metropolitan Policing area. END.
