Nine goats were yesterday confirmed to have died of anthrax at Alisum cattle market in Mpondwe Lhubiriha town council in Kasese district.
This number is in addition to the four animals that were buried in the same area on Monday as a result of anthrax infection which is said to be a threat to the animals.
According to Dr. Yusufu Kibaya, the District Veterinary Doctor who confirmed the information said that anthrax was the cause of the death after diagnosing the dead animals.
Dr. Yusufu also reported that the same disease had attacked wild animals in Queen Elizabeth national park before.
He has warned Butcher men not to sell meat that is not screened by veterinary doctors and urged the general public not to eat meat from dead animals.
However Mr. Moses Mugisa, the town clerk for Mpondwe Lhubiriha town council advised those who are involved in animal business to always have clearance documents that confirm safety of their animals from where they buy from before veterinary officers can allow them for slaughtering. ENDS
