More than 700 foot pilgrims are expected to converge at Namurwotho Chapel in Nebbi district to prepare for flagging off for the Namugongo trek.
Sam Okaba, the chairperson national foot pilgrims committee says they will tomorrow be driven to Kamudini Junction, where they will be flagged off by Archbishop-elect Raphael Okorach from Gulu Archdiocese.
Mr. Okaba who said the pilgrims’ first stop will be Bweyale along the Kampala-Gulu Highway, added that they had so far received support from various corporate entities including telecom company MTN Uganda in the form of reflector jackets and refreshments. Walking from Kamudi, the foot pilgrims from Nebbi Diocese, the Animator of this year’s Martyrs’ day celebrations, are expected to trek all the way to Namugongo shrine in Wakiso District, covering a distance of about 272 kilometers for the annual celebrations slated for June 3rd.
