    50,000 apple seedlings received by Kasese Framers.

    Farmers in Kasese district have received Fifty thousand, apple seedlings to boost their household income.

    According to the OWC coordinator Kasese district, Lt.Col.Bernabas Bwambale Mahango, the 50,000 seddlings will be supplied to seventeen registered groups under Kasese Apple growers Organization-KAGO.

    Speaking to our reporter yesterday at the district headquarters shortly after launching the distribution exercise of the seedlings, Lt.Col. Mughongo said farmers have been trained in orchard establishment, land preparation, planting, pruning, pests and disease management among others.

    Naads and Operation Wealth Creation is working in partnership with NARO to make apple farming a success due to suitable conditions in Kasese for growing apples, Lt.Col Mughongo said.

    He asked farmers to impress apple growing as a business now that government has invested a lot in agriculture.

    Lt.Mughongo appealed to political leaders to raise awareness about the fruit and its values to the farmers in the entire district.

    The Executive Director KAGO, Mr.John Kimadi revealed that Uganda Breweries Limited has partnered with KAGO to buy apples fruits.

    The apple seedlings are valued at Four hundred Fifty Million shillings. END.
