Usually armed with guns, soldiers of the UPDF were yesterday armed with brooms, spades and slashes to clean Bwera Hospital, the Bus terminal and Mpondwe Market in Mpondwe-Lhubiriha town council in Kasese District.
Donning Military fatigue, UPDF officers from 5 mountain Rusese barracks, Police and employees of Mpondwe-Lhubiriha town council turned up for what they dubbed a “cleaning exercise” during the Army week.
Capt.JP Adyanga, team leader said the activities were to mark Tarehe sita, which falls on February 6th.
He said this year’s week long activities involved cleaning Hospitals, Markets and other public places aimed to strengthen the relationship between the local community and security personnel.

Residents watched as soldiers conducted the exercise that is expected to be climaxed with a friendly match between UPDF and Mpondwe-Lhubiriha town council employees on Tarehe Sita celebrations day at Rusese playground.
The Political Commissar 5 Mountain Brigade Pte.Matuga Emmy, said the exercise will continue until the last day of the celebration.
