The Ministry of Works and Transport in collaboration with the traffic police have announced stringent traffic measures to curb accidents during the festive season.
This follows up to 390 road crashes that have been registered across the country between December 10 – 19th 2022.
Of these 71 cases were fatal, 202 victims escaped with serious injuries while 117 had minor injuries, the latest being the fatal crash that claimed the life of Patrick Okabe, the Serere County legislator and his wife Christine Okabe at Naboa along Mbale-Tirinyi road on Monday.
He directed police to enhance vigilance and impound all vehicles in dangerous mechanical conditions, arrest drunk drivers, drivers without valid driving licenses, and those using hand held mobile phones among others. Gen.Katumba on accidents….
He urged the public to use the toll free line 0800 199 099 to report errant drivers, accidents and call for rescue when the need arises. END.
