A 35-year-old man has been killed by a suspected wild beast in Kayanja one –Ensinungi village, Kitswamba Sub County in Kasese district.
SP Luke Mbusa, the Regional Police Liaison’s officer for Rwenzori East Region, confirmed the last night incident and identified the deceased as one Mr. Emmanuel Kiiza, a local resident of Kanyatsi village in Kitholhu subcounty but was a rice farmer in Kayanja village.
Mr. Robert Muhindo, a hired guard on the farm and a local resident of Kigoro cell in Kasese Municipality, said the deceased was attacked by a furious elephant during the beasts’ second attack on them as they guarded the fourteen sacks of rice that had been harvested by the late Kiiza and his laborers. The woman councilor representing Rugendabara parish, Hon. Bridget Mule and Mr. Semu Mulimba, the head of the local elephant guards, said about ten locals had been killed by elephants in the last two years and that doubling man power and extending the electric fence along the Queen national park in the area, were lasting solutions.
