At least 28 Christians including two pastors were yesterday arrested in Kampala and Wakiso district for defying a ban on Church gatherings.
Such gatherings were banned for 32-days, as one of the measures to contain the spread of Coronavirus Disease-COVID-19.
Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesman, Patrick Onyango, said that the group was arrested by the Security Inter-Agency Joint Task Force from various Churches.
One of the pastors was identified as Immaculate Biyinzika of Praise Jesus Worship Church who was arrested together with 20 worshipers from Makandwa Kajjansi, Wakiso District.
The other is Pastor Moses Baker of Alter Truth Ministries of Komamboga-Kyanja who was picked by the Intelligence Surveillance Team along with six followers and detained at Kira Road Police Station.
Police said Baker had more than a dozen people but others escaped arrest.
Uganda National Security Council set up a Joint Task Force superintended by Deputy Chief of Defence Forces Lt Gen Wilson Mbadi on Wednesday purposely to ensure that the Presidential orders are followed but also work with the Ministry of Health to evacuate COVID-19 patients.
UPDF and the Uganda Police Force have deployed 240 health workers to help the Ministry of Health to fight COVID-19. Field Operations of the Joint Task Team are commanded by Maj Gen Leopold Uganda. END
