One hundred thirty-eight Rwenzururu Royal guards have been awarded with certificates of Amnesty with a call on operators of Allied Democratic Force rebels and their allies to surrender and benefit from Amnesty Commission.
Speaking to the Press shortly after the ceremony held at Rwenzori Square in Kasese Municipality this afternoon, the Coordinator for Amnesty Commission in charge of Rwenzori Region, Major Ronald Ssekatawa said the Government of Uganda is ready to receive, forgive, rehabilitate and work with any Negative Forces in Uganda should her members denounce rebellion. Rwenzururu Premier, Rt. Hon. Joseph Kule Muranga who was a Member of the 6th Parliament and secretary to the parliamentary committee that reportedly generated the idea for an Amnesty Commission in Uganda, said two conditions had been given by the Directorate of Public Prosecution, either to take a plea bargain or ask for Amnesty that the former accused persons from the kingdom opted for.
